This bag is very stiff and has a strong odor. I was worried the tan would leave stains on my son's clothes, but it did not. The strasps strain as he holds it by the handles and only has a bottle of water and one plastic binder with paper. We went this route so he wouldn't lose papers and supplies while at school like normal. So far it is working for him.
I wouldn't recomment this for heavy items if you do not intend on using the shoulder strap. He hates use the strap so he carries it like a briefcase.

Beautiful bag! Excellent Quality Leather! Excellent Craftsmanship and Solid Stitching. Nicely conditioned. Durable. Only thing to be cautious is that there is not much padding on the bottom for the laptop, just be gentle when you're setting your bag down. It looks sharp and professional. Good space to carry my laptop charger, files, note pad, highlighters, wallet, etc. Going to order one as a gift.

But my son was graduating college and going on to professional school, so I got my google on and saw this leather briefcase that wasn't outrageously expensive. In a moment of weakness, I ordered it.

Honestly, at first I was didn’t think I was going to like it, however, my mind has quickly changed, and I looked at the quality of the product truly exceptional. It’s very soft it’s gonna have a great patina. I can tell and I love the green on the interior. It’s very classy. The leather briefcase is for my son. Looks great although the outside strap is somewhat awkward handling.
I ordered one briefcase and received two. And was billed for two. I returned one and am still awaiting for James Leather to refund the returned briefcase.

Please ask me to write a review a year from now. My first impression is that for the price, $159.00, you won't find a better leather briefcase anywhere for $259.00. If you're ok with a rugged look this briefcase is a perfect match. If you prefer a more refined look, say the kind found in a Coach bag, you might be disappointed. The leather isn't as stiff and the form isn't as perfect as with most higher priced products. But you'll pay $500 for stiffer leather and better form. (The briefcase arrived flattened, which was a very disappointing look. However, once it was packed with all my stuff, and filled out, I was much happier.) The inside is very nice and perfectly divided. The metal components seem solid enough to provide a long life, with the strap being the only possible exception. We shall see. (I use the strap consistently.) The zippers are high quality. Upon arrival there was a distinct tannery scent to this product, but after a week it had dissipated. All and all, thumbs up!

Bag arrived sooner than expected. It’s clearly real leather; has a bit of leathery smell about it but it’s nothing out of the ordinary. The workmanship is quite good, the leather supple with a great look and feel to it. My only critique is that the interior lining (green canvas) is not, say, very appealing and that the design of the bag could be improved as the flap falls over it in a way that when the buckle is tied the bag is not “balanced”. Those are the only minor criticisms.
For the price you can’t beat the quality of this product.

I love the color and texture of the leather. I don’t like the strap to close the bag, needs to be something different than like a belt buckle. Too cumbersome to open and close. The strap is way to long. Someone in my office commented to me yesterday, “nice man purse”. Need to fix both then it is a great buy. I paid $500 for a similar case from Texas. Did not like the color or texture of the leather. You fix what I mentioned and you have a real winner!!!!!

Amazing and classic! My only complaint is the design of pads for computer. Both padded pockets face out leaving the only double sided protective pocket the large main pocket in the middle which is too large to protect your computer. Otherwise a beautiful bag!

Bag is great and very stylish. Only 2 drawbacks: first, the shoulder strap is not as high quality as the rest of the bag; and 2nd, the front hatch clasp is not as sturdy and convenient as it might otherwise be. Otherwise, the bag is beautiful and very roomy, and I am quite pleased with it.

There were traces of soft plastic sticking out by the handle under the tacks. I carefully pulled them out using the length of a sewing needed against my finger. I didn't want to return because it didn't seem necessary. I thought it may have been some kind of protection at some point in shipping. I was confident I could remedy this.
